Junior Vice Commander Kevin Adams
Kevin was born and raised in McHenry, Illinois, and graduated from McHenry East High School in 2006. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Automotive and Diesel Repair in 2008. In 2010, Kevin enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, with the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Brigade Combat Team, and deployed to Iraq and Kuwait from 2011 to 2012 and to Korea in 2016. He honorably served until 2017, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Since leaving the military, Kevin has been an active member of the McHenry veteran community, participating in the American Legion, VFW, and Polish Legion of American Veterans (PLAV). He was elected Commander of American Legion Post 491 in 2020, leading the post during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its 100th anniversary celebration. Currently, Kevin serves as the Junior Vice Commander of Post 491 and is a proud member of the Combined Color Guard of McHenry.
Adjutant Sean Greaney
Sean served as a Machinist’s Mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the ammunition ship USS Mount Baker (AE-34) from 1989 to 1993. During his service, he completed two Mediterranean deployments and served in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. For his service, Sean was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal with a bronze cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Battle ‘E’ Efficiency Ribbon.
A member of the American Legion since 2021, Sean was elected Post Adjutant of American Legion Post 491 in 2024.
Sean’s family has a proud tradition of military service and American Legion membership spanning four generations. His grandfather, a World War I veteran, was among the first Legionnaires in the family. His father, Bill, served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and his son, Liam, is currently on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Together, the Greaneys proudly represent four generations of Legionnaires.
